Unusual Options Activity For January 30, 2018

Today saw the S&P 500 fall -1.09%. Other equity indexes saw drops of close to -1% as well. As such, today is a great day to look at the most active options.

In terms of the top 25 traded options, 17 were on the put side and 8 on the call side. 11 of the 25 were on SPY. 6 were on VIX. Also, there were three trades in the energy space
via XOP. The most popular was SPY Wednesday $274 Put that saw volume at 210,743. Clearly, a one day bet.

In my opinion, the smartest trade I saw was the Friday Apple $175 Call which was trading at $1.37. 42,438 calls traded there. Earnings will be out tomorrow after the close. The stock has sold off by -6.86% on a close over close basis from its January peak to finish today at $166.97. A 5% move would take the stock to $175.31. A 10% move would take the stock to $183.67 and those that bought these calls would have some nice pocket change for the weekend.
