Trump Cannot Answer Serious Questions about His Big Lie
Former disgraced, defeated and twice impeached President Trump abruptly ended an interview with National Public Radio reporter Steve Inskeep on Tuesday after being pressed by his repeated lies about the 2020 presidential election.
The 33rd President of the United States, Harry S. Truman, made the old saying…
“If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen” famous.
Many journalists, news reporters in the mainstream press, have pointed out that Donald J. Trump, who has done all sorts of interviews with the right-wing media, could sit and answer the much harder questions that hard-nosed mainstream interviews would pose. The answer appears to be an absolute no.
During the interview, which aired on NPR’s “Morning Edition” on Wednesday, Trump became noticeably irritated when the show’s host Steve Inskeep asked him about recent comments by Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D). They not only said the 2020 election was fair and that Trump “did not win” but then doubled down on his assertion of Trump’s loss after Trump unloaded on him.
Trump responded to Sen. Rounds assertion that the former President lost by saying…
“(Sen.)Rounds is wrong on that! Totally wrong.”
Unlike his interview with far-right NewsMax, One America News PBS’ Inskeep pushed on asking Trump why many Republicans in the U.S. Senate are not standing behind him and his disproven claim that his loss was attributable to voter fraud.
Instead of answering the question, the clearly agitated loser of the 2020 presidential election snapped back…
“Because Mitch McConnell is a loser. This is a long way from over.”
Trump launched his familiar overused claim that he got more votes than any sitting president and wondered aloud how Joe Biden could have beaten him, saying…
“How come Biden couldn’t attract 20 people for a crowd? How come when he went to speak in different locations, nobody came to watch, but all of a sudden, he got 80 million votes? Nobody believes that, Steve.
“Nobody believes that.”
Inskeep didn’t bother to point out that Biden received 81,283,361 votes and instead replied…
“If you’ll forgive me “maybe because the election was about you.”
Trump was unable to even deal with Inskeep’s follow-up questions on why so many of his lawyers could not persuade the courts that any fraud took place. Instead, he fell back on a series of lies he’s been repeating since he lost the 2020 election.
Inskeep then went on to ask if he’ll refuse to endorse any GOP candidates who dispute his lies about the 2020 election and whether peddling his baseless claims is “an absolute.”
Trump asserted that “the ones that are smart” will continue to press the election fraud issue, saying…
“People have no idea how big this issue is, and they don’t want it to happen again, and the only way it’s not going to happen again is you have to solve the problem of the rigged presidential election.”
The heat in the kitchen was getting too hot, and Trump quickly thanked Inskeep and hung up before the host could ask a question related to a legal case involving the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. NPR reports the interview was scheduled for 15 minutes but lasted just over nine minutes.
This radio interview indicates why Trump is refusing to be deposed by N.Y. State Letitia James will resist any subpoenas and interviews with members of the press that won’t agree to give him softball questions.
Trump’s inability to sit under oath and answer challenging questions could result in multiple defaults in lawsuits he has filed and that have been filed by others. This will likely mean that the two voting machine companies, Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems, will now name him in their billion-dollar lawsuits.
