The Week Ahead Sees Lots of Fed Speak, Economic Data, Central Bank Action & Earnings

1. Geopolitical Events. On Monday Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Stanley Fisher will speak. Also, on Monday night the RBA will release its latest interest rate decision. On Wednesday Federal Reserve Dallas Federal Reserve President Rob Kaplan and San Francisco President Williams will speak at 12:00 p.m. EDT and 8:45 a.m. EDT respectively. On Thursday the ECB will announce its latest interest rate decision and then hold a press conference. Also on Thursday Federal Reserve New York President William Dudley will speak at 8:30 a.m. EDT. On Friday Federal Reserve San Francisco President John Williams will speak at the Federal Home Loan Bank’s member conference at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
2. Economic Releases. Releases of note this week include the weekly chain store sales, oil/gas numbers, mortgage applications and industrial production, CPI, housing starts, Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Survey, existing home sales and leading indicators.
3. Earnings Releases. Notable releases include BAC IBM JNJ INTC USB RAI MSFT VZ GE MCD.
Monday, October 17:
European Union Foreign Ministers meet to discuss Syria.
September Industrial Production is released at 9:15 a.m. EDT and is expected to rise to 75.6 from 75.5.
Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Stanley Fisher speaks to the Economic Club of New York at 12:00 p.m. EDT.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) concludes its latest monetary policy meeting and issues its latest guidance at 9:30 p.m. EDT.
Tuesday, October 18:
September CPI is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to rise to 0.3% from 0.2%.
President Obama meets with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.
Wednesday, October 19:
September Housing Starts are due out at 8:30 p.m. EDT and are expected to rise to 1,167,500 from 1,142.000.
The Latest Federal Reserve Beige Book is due out at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
The last Presidential Debate is held between Republican Candidate Donald Trump and Democratic Candidate Hillary Clinton at 9:00 p.m. EDT.
At night, China will report its latest industrial production, retail sales and GDP growth numbers.
Thursday, October 20:
October Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Survey is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to fall to 7.3 from 12.8.
At 10:00 a.m. EDT, September Existing Home Sales are due out and are expected to rise to 5.35 million from 5.33 million.
September Leading Indicators are also due out at 10:00 a.m. EDT and are expected to improve to 0.2 % from -0.2%.
Friday, October 21:
Options expiration for October monthly puts and calls.
