The Week Ahead: One Week Until The Election & The FOMC Weighs In Wednesday

1. Geopolitical Events. On Monday Treasury Secretary Jack Lew will speak from Great Britain before markets open. On Tuesday the BOJ will announce its latest interest rate decision. On Wednesday FOMC will announce its latest interest rate decision. On Thursday the BOE will announce its latest interest rate decision. On Friday Federal Reserve Atlanta President Dennis Lockhart will speak at 8:30 a.m. EDT, Federal Reserve Dallas President Rob Kaplan will speak at 12:00 p.m., and Federal Reserve Governor Lael Brainard will speaks with at a time to be determined.

2. Economic Releases. Releases of note this week include the weekly chain store sales, oil/gas numbers, mortgage applications and personal income, Chicago PMI, construction spending, ISM Manufacturing PMI, factory orders, nonfarm payrolls and unemployment rate.

3. Earnings Releases. Notable releases include HMC SO PFE BP FB BABA KHC SBUX REGN HUM.

Monday, October 31:

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew speaks from Great Britain about global economic integration.

September Personal Income is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to rise to 0.4% from 0.2%.

At 9:45 a.m. EDT, October Chicago PMI is due out and is expected to fall to 54 from 54.2.

Markets are closed for India.

Tuesday, November 1:

September Construction Spending is due out at 10:00 a.m. EDT and is expected to rise to 0.6% from -0.7%.

October ISM Manufacturing PMI is due out at 10:00 a.m. EDT and is expected to fall to 51.2% from 51.5%.

The Bank of Japan (BOJ) issues its latest interest rate decision.

The Federal Reserve Open Market Committee (FOMC) begins a two day meeting culminating in the latest announcement on Wednesday.

Wednesday, November 2:

The Federal Reserve Open Market Committee (FOMC) concludes a two day meeting culminating in the latest announcement at 2:00 p.m. EDT. No change is expected but may signal an increase may be coming in December.

China Service PMI is due out at 9:45 p.m. EDT.

Thursday, November 3:

September Factory Orders are due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and are expected to fall to 0.1 % from 0.2%.

The Bank of England (BOE) announces its latest interest rate decision.

Markets are closed in Japan.

Friday, November 4:

October Nonfarm Payrolls are due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and are expected to rise to 195,000 from 165,000.

The unemployment rate for October is expected to fall to 4.9% from 5.0%.
