The Week Ahead For The Last Week Of The Year

1.Geopolitical and Fiscal Events. It should be a quiet week as most in Washington D.C. are away for the Holidays and will return in January.

2.Economic Releases. Releases of note this week include the weekly chain store sales, oil/gas numbers, mortgage applications and jobless claims as well as Case Schiller Home Price Index, Pending Home Sales and Chicago PMI.

3.Earnings Releases.Notable releases this upcoming week include FCEL CALM.

Monday, December 27th

The latest NYSE and NASDAQ Short Interest is due out after the close for data from November 26th through December 13th when the S&P 500 rose 2.15%. We incorrectly wrote last week that it would be updated over this past weekend but we were relying on an old post.

Tuesday, December 28th

S&P Case Schiller Home Price Index for October is due out at 9:00 a.m. EST and is expected to fall to 18.7% from 19.1%.

Wednesday, December 29th

Pending Home Sales for November is due out at 10:00 a.m. EST and is expected to fall to 0.6% from 7.5%.

Thursday, December 30th

No releases of note other than the normal weekly releases of note.

Friday, December 31st

The last trading day of the year sees normal market hours and does not close early.

December Chicago PMI is due out at 9:45 a.m. EST and is expected to remain at 61.80.
