The Week Ahead For September 5th-9th

1. Geopolitical Events. Monday Russian President Putin meets with German Chancellor Merkel and French President Hollande. Also on Monday the G-20 meeting continues. Finally, on Monday Bank of Japan Governor Kuroda speaks. Thursday the European Central Bank announces its latest interest rate decision. President Obama attends the East Asia Summit in Laos and speaks at a news conference. Friday Federal Reserve Boston President Eric Rosengren speaks, the Euro Zone Finance Minister meets and the Greek Prime Minister Tsipras meets with multiple southern European leaders in Malta.

2. Economic Releases. Releases of note this week include the weekly chain store sales, oil/gas numbers, mortgage applications and ISM Services Index.

3. Earnings Releases. Notable releases include MRVL CASY HPE VAL DCI HAIN KR HOV.

Monday, September 5:

Markets in the U.S. are closed for Labor Day observances.

Russian President Vladimir Putin meets with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande to discuss the Ukrainian crisis.

The G-20 meeting continues.

Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda speaks in Toyko.

Tuesday, September 6:

The House and Senate return from a seven week break. Is it a coincidence stocks moved higher during this period?

August ISM Non-Manufacturing Index is due out at 10:00 a.m. EDT and are expected to rise to 97.5 from 97.3.

Wednesday, September 7:

Apple (AAPL) holds a media event to announce the release of the new iPhone and Apple Watch. The stock is almost a Type 4 Long Squeeze but needs to see its Tech Rank drop from 40% to 30% to trigger that change in status.

The Federal Reserve Latest Beige Book is released at 2:00 p.m. EDT.

Markets are closed in Brazil.

Thursday, September 8:

European Central Bank (ECB) announces its latest interest rate decision at 7:00 a.m. EDT.

President Obama attends and speaks at the East Asia Summit in Laos.

The NFL kicks off its new season with a rematch of the Super Bowl between Denver and Carolina.

Friday, September 9:

Euro Zone Finance Ministers meet to discuss life after Brexit and the tax penalty on Apple in Ireland.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tspiras meets with the leaders of Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Cyprus and Malta.
