The Week Ahead For May 6th to 10th: Fedspeak Dominates The Action

The NASDAQ 100 was higher as were the S&P 100 and Russell 2000 while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was lower again for the third week in a row.

1.Geopolitical and Fiscal Events. Monday sees Federal Reserve Chicago President Evans along with Philadelphia President Harker speak. Tuesday sees Federal Reserve Dallas President Kaplan and Federal Reserve Governor Quarles speak. Wednesday sees Federal Reserve Governor Brainard speak and she speaks again on Friday. Federal Reserve Chairman Powell gets a do over from last week on Thursday.

2.Economic Releases. Releases of note this week and next include the weekly chain store sales, oil/gas numbers, mortgage applications and jobless claims as well.

3.Earnings Releases. Notable releases this upcoming week include OXY AIG BUD AGN DIS HMC BKNG DUK ENB MAR.

Monday, May 6

None of note.

Tuesday, May 7

Wells Fargo (WFC) holds it analyst meeting and is a Type 4 Long Squeeze.

Wednesday, May 8

None of note.

Thursday, May 9

April PPI is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to fall to 0.2% from 0.6%.

Federal Reserve Chairman Powell speaks at the Federal Reserve Community Development Research Conference in Washington, D.C.

Intel (INTC) holds its analyst day and is a Type 4 Long Squeeze.

The latest short interest for NYSE and NASDAQ is due out after the close. It goes through settlement of April 30th and trade date of April 26th

Friday, May 10

April CPI is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and expected to stay at 0.4%.

Uber (UBER) should begin trading.
