The Week Ahead For August 15th-18th

1. Geopolitical Events. Tuesday Federal Reserve Atlanta President Dennis Lockhart speaks in Tennessee. The latest FOMC Minutes are released on Wednesday. Also, Federal Reserve St, Louis President James Bullard speaks on Wednesday. Thursday see Federal Reserve San Francisco President John Williams and Dallas President Rob Kaplan speak. Friday sees leaders of Germany, France and Italy meet in Italy.

2. Economic Releases. Releases of note this week include the weekly chain store sales, oil/gas numbers, mortgage applications and CPI, housing starts, industrial production, leading indicators and Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index.

3. Earnings Releases. Notable releases include SYY VIPS HD TJX CSCO LOW WMT AMAT EL DE.

Monday, August 15:

The latest meeting minutes from the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) are due out at 9:30 p.m. EDT.

Tuesday, August 16:

July CPI is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to remain at 0.2%.

July Housing Starts are due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and are expected to come in at 1,180,000 from 1,189,000 last month.

July Industrial Production is due out at 9:15 a.m. EDT and is expected to come in at 0.2% from 0.6% last month.

Wednesday, August 17:

Federal Reserve Open Market Committee (FOMC) Meeting Notes are due out at 2:00 p.m. EDT.

Thursday, August 18:

August Philadelphia Federal Reserve Manufacturing Index is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to come in at 3.0% from -2.9% last month.

July Leading Indicators are due out at 10:00 a.m. EDT and are expected to come in at 0.3% again.

Friday, August 19:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi meet in Italy.
