The Week Ahead For April 17th-21st

1. Geopolitical Events. On Monday Vice President Pence visits South Korea. On Tuesday Federal Reserve Kansas City President Esther George speaks at Bard College at 9:00 a.m. EDT. Also on Tuesday Vice President Pence continues his trip to Japan. On Wednesday the Federal Reserve releases its latest Beige Book, and Federal Reserve Boston President Eric Rosengren speaks at 12:30 p.m. EDT. On Thursday German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble speaks in Washington D.C. On Friday the IMF and World Bank hold their annual meetings. Also, on Friday Federal Reserve Minneapolis President Neel Kashkari speaks at 9:30 a.m. EDT.

2. Economic Releases. Releases of note this week include the weekly chain store sales, oil/gas numbers, mortgage applications, jobless claims and Empire Manufacturing, housing starts, industrial production, Beige Book, Philadelphia Fed Index, leading indicators and existing home sales.

3. Earnings Releases. Notable releases include NFLX UAL JNJ BAC USB MS V VZ GE SLB.

Monday, April 17:

Empire Manufacturing for April is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to fall to 13 from 16.40.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence travels to South Korea.

Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) minutes are due out at 4:30 a.m. EDT.

Tuesday, April 18:

March Housing Starts are due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and are expected to fall to 1,250,000 from 1,288,000.

March Industrial Production is due out at 9:15 a.m. EDT and is expected to improve to 0.50% from 0.01%.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence travels to Japan.

Taxes are due at midnight.

Wednesday, April 19:

The latest Federal Reserve Beige Book is released at 2:00 p.m. EDT.

Thursday, April 20:

March Leading Indicators are due out at 10:00 a.m. EDT and are expected to fall to 0.20% from 0.60%.

The March Philadelphia Fed Index is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to fall to 21.8 from 32.8.

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble speaks in Washington D.C.

Meetings of note today include IRM PDCE BX

Friday, April 21:

March Existing Home Sales are due out at 10:00 a.m. EDT and are expected to rise to 5,530,000 from 5,480,000.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank hold their annual meetings in Washington D.C.

Meetings of note today include SCHW NDRM.
