President Biden: U.S. and China Can Work Together Despite Their Disagreements

President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping had the first face-to-face encounter between the leaders of the United States and China at the Group of 20 meetings in Bali, Indonesia since the worldwide pandemic. Biden thinks that "the world expects China and the United States to play a vital role in tackling global concerns."

During a meeting on Monday with the President of China, Xi Jinping,  President Joe Biden expressed his continued optimism that the United States and China would be able to cooperate.

"The world expects, I believe, China and the United States to play key roles in addressing global challenges from climate change to food insecurity and for us to be able to work together," Biden told Xi. "The world expects China and the United States to play key roles in addressing global challenges from climate change to food insecurity." "If this is what you want, the United States is prepared to do just that and collaborate with you," the statement said.

A meeting between the presidents of the world's two biggest economies is taking place on the margins of the G-20 Summit, which is taking place on the vacation island of Bali this year.

It was anticipated that leaders would discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the escalating tensions between China and Taiwan, an autonomous island that President Xi Jinping has a strong desire to subjugate to mainland control. The conflict in Ukraine will soon enter its ninth month.

As a result of Russia's actions against Ukraine, the country is also in an unquestionably tough situation. China's annoyance may be attributed to the tight connection that the United States maintains with Taiwan. Beijing retaliated to a visit to the island in August by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi by launching missiles into the Taiwan Strait during that month.

Biden told Xi on Monday that he was "committed to keeping the lines of communications open between you and me personally, but also between our governments across the board." He emphasized that both countries are responsible for " managing our differences, preventing competition from becoming anything ever to near conflict, and finding ways to work together on urgent global issues that require our mutual cooperation."

The meeting will be the first time American officials will have the opportunity to appreciate how Mr. Xi intends to deputize those around him to maintain open communication channels with the United States. Mr. Xi used a Communist Party conference that took place one month ago in order to strengthen his hold on domestic authority. An official from the White House said they would be searching for "fresh faces" in attendance at the gathering, and they are aware of this fact.

In an important report that he presented to a meeting of the Communist Party earlier this month, Chinese President Xi Jinping detailed the goals he intends to accomplish during his third and final term in office. His fears about a more unstable world, in which Washington is disputing China's ascension as an authoritarian powerhouse, were betrayed by the deletion of two sentences.

Since the 1990s, successive Chinese leaders have declared at the congress that their nation is presently undergoing a "period of important strategic opportunity." By doing so, they imply that China is not currently in danger of being involved in a major conflict and can instead focus more on fostering economic expansion. Even for a longer period of time, authorities have been quoted as saying that "peace and development remain the themes of the age," which gives the impression that regardless of what may be going wrong in the globe, China is benefiting from the larger trends.
