The Department of Justice has been investigating possible pay for presidential pardon scheme that has been linked to the White House. The investigation was underway during the 2020 campaign.
According to CNN, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has been and continues to investigate what has been described as a bribery scheme that involves selling presidential pardons. This will raise more questions about President Trump’s pardon of Michael Flynn regarding whether Flynn paid the pardon with his silence, keeping his mouth shut.
According to court records, that were unsealed Tuesday in federal court, the DOJ investigation is about whether a “potential crime” that is “related to funneling money to the White House or related political committee in exchange for a presidential pardon, CNN reports.
Federal prosecutors believe a large cache of cell phones and other “devices revealed emails that showed allegedly criminal activity, which includes a ‘secret lobbying scheme’ and a bribery conspiracy that offered ‘a substantial political contribution in exchange for at least one presidential pardon or reprieve of the sentence’ for a convicted defendant whose name is redacted from the court records released.
