GOP Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson Blocks Bipartisan $1,200 Checks

Johnson objected to the vote. Under Senate rules, one senator objecting to the stimulus check bill, which required unanimous consent, is enough to block the vote from moving forward.

President Trump has repeatedly asked Congress to send checks for up to $2,000 to help ease the misery growing as the U.S. economy has financially crippled or wiped out over 40 million Americans. The request amounts to just another fake attempt to color Trump as a caring POTUS.

The sincerity of Trump’s efforts to help Americans has no credibility. One of Trump’s biggest sycophants in the U.S. Senate, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), blocked a bipartisan proposal to send Americans $1,200 checks on Friday. These vital stimulus checks were to help Americans bridge their ability to survive until the mass vaccination for the novel coronavirus pandemic is achieved here in the United States.

According to Bloomberg reporter Steven Dennis

“Johnson objected to the proposal on the grounds that it would add too much to the deficits, despite the fact that Johnson earlier in the year voted for a much larger economic relief package that cost more than $2 trillion.”

In trying to justify his opposition to sending Americans checks, Johnson claimed that doing so would amount to “mortgaging our children’s future.” It’s a position that may have worked before the Trump administration cut Trillions of dollars in taxes for the ultra-rich and corporations. Still, in the middle of the worst economic crises that continue to worsen, the excuse will guarantee his re-election defeat.

For his part, Johnson is saying he may not run for re-election because his poll numbers are abysmal. The idea to send $1,200 to $2,000 checks has not only been endorsed by Trump but also championed by both Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a conservative and democratic socialist as the best and most direct way to help Americans struggling during a pandemic that so far has killed more than 311,000 of their fellow citizens, and which has financially crippled 40 million-plus Americans

Instead, Senator Johnson is busy promoting the lie that the election was stolen via fraud despite not having any evidence to prove the allegation.
