Georgia Republican Lawmakers Murdering State’s Democracy
Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp and the vast majority of his fellow GOP lawmakers are intent on murdering democracy in their state. They are taking the same steps the most despicable dictators of the 20th Century took to eliminate opposing political parties and install an authoritarian dictatorship.
Georgia’s Republican Governor Brian Kemp signed into law “election reforms” that make it illegal to give people waiting in long lines to vote food and water and empowers state officials to literally seize the vote-counting process in Georgia. The authorizing GOP-controlled legislature and its rotten to the core governor collude to overturn future election results for the very purpose of structuring Republicans to maintaining power in the state.
The outrageousness of the Republican power play was capped off by arresting AND dragging State Representative Park Cannon for simply knocking on the governor’s door. Cannon only wanted to attend and witness the signing of the new law that can only be described as a purely communist, authoritarian seizure of power that mirrors laws passed in Franco’s Spain, Mao Tse Tung’s China, Mussolini’s Italy, Stalin’s Soviet Union and Hitler’s NAZI Germany.
National Black leaders are calling the new ‘election reforms” the new Jim Crow. The truth is the new election laws murder democracy in Georgia for all Georgians. Simply put, election results can now be determined 100% by the political party in power, in this case, Republicans, for any reason, including no reason at all other than the Republican’s desire to hold on to power.
Georgia State Representative Park Cannon’s arrest for simply knocking on the door of the governor’s office is caught on video and could result in a multi-year prison sentence. The fact that the State’s Capital Police knowingly arrested a legislator, which is illegal when the State House is in the session, shows the Republican Governor and political machine have no respect for the law.

The rush towards turning Georgia into a Communist one-party authoritarian state is reminiscent of Russian dissident Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s 1962 book One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich that exposed the cruelty and inhuman politics of the Soviet Union that existed from 1917 through its collapse in 1989.
Solzhenitsyn’s book follows Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, who was sentenced to 10 years in a forced labor prison camp in the Soviet Gulag system for simply being accused without a shred of evidence of becoming a Nazi spy after being captured briefly by the Germans during World War II.
Georgia State Representative Park Cannon finds herself in the same position as Solzhenitsyn’s character Ivan Denisovich with the added insult of being arrested for protesting (rather calmly) while being black.
Park Cannon’s arrest is the kind of savage assault on democracy and the type of Jim Crow tyranny the Republican Party is willing to impose if allowed to go unchecked. The bottom line it’s a glimpse of the totalitarianism Republicans. They are eager to set these same restrictions to the Constitution if allowed on the entire country.
A country where simply giving water and food can be prosecuted as a felony and land violators in jail for years, and a government that when the votes are counted can be tossed at the discretion of the Republican lawmakers simply because the results show they lost an election.
All American’s should be outraged at the voter suppression laws passed in Georgia and being enacted by other Republican legislators around the country.
Georgia Republican lawmakers will face a backlash for re-creating the Soviet political system that allows an ordinary man or woman to be condemned to endless years of misery in a concentration camp. These sentences will be imposed for simply protesting tyranny and the oppression of the democratic freedoms they claim to support and enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.
Georgia’s Republican lawmakers are attempting to dehumanize its black and minority population, leading to tens of millions of people protesting and boycotting businesses in their state.
