Baby It's Cold Outside

Not only is it cold outside in most the northern states but it is cold on Wall Street as well. We have updated our year to date statistics. Rather shocking!

Each week from Erlanger Chart Room I track Phil's universe of stocks which this week totals 4607 stocks.

Of these, 1435 are up which equates to 31%. Only 8 are flat for the year. Now comes the ugly part.

3164 stocks are lower which is 69% lower for the year. Of those lower, the average return is -29.55%. Median return on those is -24.74%.

For the whole universe return is -8.81%. For those up YTD, the average return is 36.86% and median is 18.10%. So if you have been in the right names,then your Christmas could be merry but if you held onto losers then you could be getting coal.

The unknown is how much of the dogs have already been sold and how many still have to be unloaded. We will be tracking this over the next 10 trading days.
